Double Decker London Bus celebrates 20 years service

Date Posted: 2011-12-16

The bright red London bus is eye-catching in Mihama’s American Village, despite the fact the Double Decker doesn’t really go anywhere.

Double Decker is both a bus and a restaurant, and it’s now celebrating 20 years of serving the Okinawa community from its unique vantage point of retro 1960’s design. It’s hard to miss, and it’s really a fun place –some would say ‘cool place’—to hang out, with so much to choose from.

The bar is as authentic European as it gets, the “black gold” itself is the tasty Irish Guinness first served to Chatan’s public right in the very bus, the Double Decker. The bar features more than 50 different whiskies, and offers 200 different cocktails.

Adjacent to Double Decker is its sister facility, Decker’s Kitchen, just inside the building on the second floor, where the menu includes real McCoy stone-baked pizza, pasta, beef stew and rice omelet, and a rice casserole. For an additional ¥400, give the soup and salad buffet a spin, and enjoy the free refills on soft drinks.

An additional special attraction on Wednesday evenings is in-house magician Tim, who entertains guests with his often incredible table tricks.

The owner’s recommendation, of course, is that you stop for a meal in Decker’s Kitchen, and then stroll over to the Double Decker for some quirky, mod-style drinks. Double Decker is open year-round from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., with last orders at 1 a.m. Double Decker accepts all major credit cards.
