Yuletide Season officially under way on Okinawa

Christmas is just around the corner and whether the stockings have been hung with care or not, Marine Corps Community Services is ready to spread some holiday cheer.
The 18th Annual Courtney Christmas and Holiday Festival kicks off Saturday, for a a two-day run from 2 to 10 p.m. at the Camp Courtney Commissary/PX complex. This free event is geared to all ages and will provide plenty of merriment this Christmas season.

The Courtney Christmas and Holiday Festival is open to not only service members and their families, but also to members of the local community who are invited to partake in all the festivities. There will be interactive game booths, free entertainment, delicious cultural foods and seasonal treats. On tap will be members of the National Football League cheerleader squads, and a Kids Carnival.

Holiday entertainers will provide some real yuletide spirit this year. Families can enjoy the kidsí carnival on both days, one of the festivalís biggest draws every year. There will be a gifts giveaway by Santa and Mrs. Claus and the carnival will feature Tamanchu Hiroto Juggling show, as well as performances from Rocky the Clown, Sparky the Dog, the SMP Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog.

Music in Demand will perform both evenings, and the NFL Cheerleaders and Mascots will also join the festivities on stage both Saturday and Sunday.

In the spirit of giving, MCCS will be giving away plenty of prizes for everyone during this yearís festival. One lucky winner will win roundtrip tickets to one of six United Airlines (UAL) destinations courtesy of UAL and Omega World Travel. SOFA status visitors can sign up to win between 2 and 6 p.m. both days. There will also be plenty of toy giveaways sponsored by Mattel, and an X-Box 360, iPad and Exchange gift card will also be awarded to lucky winners, courtesy of the Okinawa Enlisted Spouses Club.

Admission to the festival is free and open to all SOFA status and local nationals. No one will be admitted with pets, bottles, outside alcohol or coolers. Picture I.D. required at the gate.
