Naha Air Base all ready for Sunday Air FestivalDate Posted: 2011-12-09 ![]() The event at the joint Naha International Airport – Naha Air Base is open to the general public 9 a.m. ~ 3 p.m. Sunday. The Naha JSDF base is the only one in the nation that has Army, Maritime and Air Force units sharing a common base with Naha International Airport. F-15J fighters flown by Okinawa’s 204th Air Combat Battalion will be providing an acrobatic flight show, as well as demonstrations of take off operations and quick action loading of missiles. The JSDF Blue Impulse acrobatic team will also perform, but in a limited role. The JSDF public affairs office explains that with so many commercial flights operating from the airport, safety requirements make it hard to do too many acrobatic stunts. P-3C patrol planes, F-15J fighters, UH-60J helicopters and a Patriot missile unit will have static displays. Live music will be presented by Nansei Airlines Band, Natchy, Gold Rush and Iora. Kenichiro Mikawa and Crown Chary will also perform. Organizers say there will also be a JSDF static display of activities in the Great Tohoku Earthquake disaster area. The Airbase is a three-minute walk from the YuiRail Monorail Akamine Station. |
