Cop raids break up two student drinking parties

Date Posted: 2011-12-09

Police in two Okinawa cities responded to complaints of rowdy behavior and teen drinking, sweeping in and arresting 24 teenagers on charges of underage drinking.

Police in Uruma City crashed a party at an eatery in the Akamichi district of Uruma City about 11 p.m. Friday night, breaking up the evening as they arrested 17 junior and senior high school students ages 14~16. Because all were minors, police released the youngsters to their parents.

Uruma City Police are pursuing another investigation to determine why the eatery was even serving alcohol to the teenagers. Police say the teens were drunk after drinking awamori. The teens lived in both Uruma City and Okinawa City.

In Nago City, meanwhile seven students were arrested after police raided a private home in the Henoko district of Nago City after 3 a.m. Sunday. Cops had been tipped that the teens were “high school students drinking alcohol and making a lot of noise”. Police found the teenagers ages 17-18 all drunk from drinking beer and awamori.

Nago City Police say the teens had gathered to reminisce about their junior high school years, and began drinking alcohol. The youngsters were turned over to their parents after processing.
