USNH to hold disaster response exercise Dec. 8th

Date Posted: 2011-12-02

U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa is in the final stages of coordinating activities involved in conducting a disaster response exercise next Thursday, Dec. 8th that will the main hospital, branch clinics, and satellite facilities.

Routine medical and administrative business will be limited, says the U.S. Naval Hospital Public Affairs Office, and patients coming to Camp Lester can expect delays and increased security at the gates. Emergency care will still be available in the Emergency Department. Pre-existing clinic and surgical appointments scheduled for that day will stay as scheduled.

The hospital will be testing equipment and training personnel on procedures for managing a large number of patients coming to the hospital during a major contingency. The Dec. 8th exercise fulfills Navy Medicine and Joint Commission requirements to annually test the facility’s disaster response plan.

For questions or concerns, contact the appropriate clinic or the U.S. Naval Hospital Public Affairs Office at 643-7294.
