Wine aficionados in love with the new Beaujolais Nouveau

Date Posted: 2011-11-25

The new crop of Beaujolais Nouveau wines has been uncorked in Japan and Okinawa, and the verdict is that the wine’s excellent.

Since last Thursday’s debut, the wines have been floating off shelves as those who placed advance orders from France’s Beaujolais region snatch available supplies up. Wines between ¥2,500 and ¥4,000 per bottle are popular despite a ¥1,000 per bottle increase. Beaujolais sales are expected to exceed last year’s by some 30%.

In Okinawa, the Seamen’s Club Naha introduced the new Beaujolais Nouveau with a gourmet wine tasting event. The Seamen’s Club is offering a limited number of bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau for ¥1,500 and Beaujolais Villages Nouveau wine for ¥2,000 for as long as supplies last.
