Okinawa cops participate in nationwide traffic checks

Date Posted: 2011-11-18

One arrest was made by police as Okinawa authorities joined in a nationwide overnight traffic check operation.

A total of 321 Okinawa police officers were assigned to 52 checkpoints on major traffic routes in the prefecture, including Highway 58. The simultaneous overnight traffic check netted several local arrests, including a 54-year-old Urasoe City man who was arrested on charges of drunk driving, a violation of the Road Traffic Law.

Officials say a 26-year-old swimming pool life guard was nabbed in Ishigaki City. He was charged with excess speeding.
