Palmer rejoins high flying Ryukyu Golden Kings

Date Posted: 2011-11-16

The Ryukyu Golden Kings, already on a solid win streak in the Basketball Japan League, have inked a former player to boost the team’s offense.

David Palmer, who played 32 games last season for the Golden Kings has inked a new contract and is preparing for the weekend home series against the Shiga Lake Stars. Saturday action starts at 7 p.m. at the Naha City Gym, and Sunday’s an afternoon contest.

The star jump shooter suffered an injured shoulder midway through last season. The 29-year-old Palmer was averaging 13.5 points per game when he was hurt, shooting 45.4% from the three-point zone, poking in 59 of 130 attempts. On top of that, Palmer’s an outstanding free throw shooter, averaging 83.1% of his shots.

“I have been training and in rehabilitation with patience in my heart,” he says, “because I wanted to be playing on the court for Okinawa.” Palmer says he expects to contribute “with my outside shots” and will “play with a spirit of teamwork.”
