Sushi Roll Shin ready for anniversary celebration

Date Posted: 2011-11-10

Sushi Roll Shin, a take-out sushi restaurant near Chuo Park Avenue in Okinawa City, is celebrating its one-year anniversary riding a wave of popularity.

Nobuo Aritsuka, the owner and chef of the restaurant, found his way to Okinawa via Australia, attracted by its life style and warm weather, and is now running his eatery with his wife Yoriko. They are currently expecting their first child due early next year, and Aritsuka says he could not be happier with his life. Im so very happy now. I love to make sushi, enjoy my job and life style on the island, he says.

Sushi Roll Shin specializes in take-outs, although the restaurant serves meals inside on tables that can accomodate up to a dozen customers. He also serves drinks. Aritsuka says that he can prepare a take-out set of sushi in 15 minutes, on average, after receiving an order.

Sushi hors d'oeuvre sets for four people start from 3,000. The customers can choose the sushi topping. For nigiri sushi orders, an advance reservation is necessary. Aritsuka says his sushi and nigiri take-out plates are a good choice for the upcoming Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year parties. His novelty special for this years party season is cup sushi, which is a sushi served in a cup. Those are also made to order.

Aritsuka, recognizing that some people prefer something else instead of just sushi, says he has some finger foods on the menu, including fried chicken and edamame, the popular green beans. Recommended drinks include awamori and beer.

Sushi Roll Shin is closed through today because Aritsuka had to attend to some personal business, but re-opens tomorrow. It is open daily from 11:30 a.m. ~ 9 p.m. daily except Wednesdays, when hes closed.

Aritsuka is also offering a special deal for Japan Update readers. Anyone bringing a copy of Japan Update with him or her, or even mentions seeing this artucke in the paper, will get immediately 10 percent off from any menu item.

Customers who come by car can get a ticket entitling them for one-hour free parking at a nearby pay parking lot. To get to Shin Sushi, go out from Kadena Air Base Gate 2, then turn left at the fourth traffic light. Shin Sushi is on the left, about 100 meters after the turn. Their telephone number is (098) 989-5280.
