Candy, ghosts, goblins stalked Mihama Halloween evening

Date Posted: 2011-11-04

The Mihama Halloween Costume Contest drew hundreds of contestants dressed in all sorts of garb Monday night, each one seeking a shot at the $500 first prize.

A black widow and conductor, Monica and Nick, claimed the top spot, while Kristea Smith dressed as a predator and Hellgirl to capture the $300 second prize. Touko took third in the adult division as Chaas. In the children’s competition, which had dozens of kids vying for gigantic boxes of prizes, Robert Cruz appeared as the devil versus an angel to win. Best friends took second as Nightmare, and Ferrara Joseph showed up as Super Hero Ninja and Captain America to win third place honors.

The Mihama American Village blocked off the street just past the Ferris wheel toward the beach for the fun, which included everything from trick-or-treat to the costume contest for kids and for big kids. Throughout the American village, shops and sponsors participated by distributing candy trick-or-treat style, and offering freebies and discounts. The cultural exchange was sponsored by the Chatan Mihama American Village Jigyosha Kai and the Chatan Tourist Association.
