Gyukaku Yakiniku Barclays celebrating 5th anniversary

Date Posted: 2011-11-04

Yakiniku Gyukaku is ready to celebrate its fifth anniversary in Okinawa from its Barclays Court location, and is sporting a “Make it healthier!” slogan to catch everyone’s attention.

The nationwide Yakiniku Gyukaku chain launched the new slogan in the aftermath of the March 11th Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. The restaurant chain, which boasts 2,123 outlets in 47 prefectures, and including six of those locations in Okinawa, was founded only 15 years ago. It opened in Barclays Court Shopping Mall in Urasoe City November 11th, 2006.

Gyukaku Yakiniku uses locally produced ingredients whenever possible, which here in Okinawa includes beef coming mostly from Ishigaki and Miyako cattlemen. All beef is barbequed at the table, using tongs to handle the beef, and customers are able to grill their meat and vegetables just the way they want it. Gyukaku emphasizes that everything is fresh, and the friendly staff is always available to answer questions and lend assistance.

A Yakiniku Gyukaku specialty is the 90 minutes all-you-can-eat course. There are three different special courses on the menu, each differing in the number of included ingredients. The Otameshi course costs ¥2,929 and includes 70 ingredients. The Kiwami course for ¥3,129 has 90 varieties of ingredients, and the Tannou course at ¥3,654 has 100 different ingredients.

The restaurant offers ‘bottomless’ soft drinks for ¥399, while an alcohol version is ¥1,449. Manager Daisuke Asato notes the menu is only in Japanese, but that there are pictures of the different meals on them. He’s currently offering a special ¥500 cash back campaign, where any customer can earn the special cash back by simply telling the cashier the magic words “Guykaku genki” when paying his or her bill.

Children under 12 eat at half price, and the same half-price special applies to those over 65.

Gyukaku opens for lunch 11:30 a.m. ~ 3: p.m. Dinner runs 5 p.m. to midnight, with last orders at 11:20 pm. Both yen and credit cards are accepted. There’s plenty of free parking at Barclays Court Shopping Mall, which is located next to the American Consulate in Urasoe. Reservations are available at (098) 871-1729.
