Season's first Beaujolais Nouveau wines arriveDate Posted: 2011-11-04 ![]() ![]() Okinawa and all of Japan will uncork the first Beaujolais Nouveau of the season on November 17th, with a series of special parties. In Naha, the Seamen’s Club will hold a Beaujolais Nouveau Party Thursday the 17th, starting at 7 p.m. with tapping of the first keg. Advance tickets are available for ¥3,500, and tickets at the door –if the event’s limited 160 tickets aren’t sold out—will be ¥4,000. The Beaujolais Nouveau and Beaujolais Villages Nouveau wines will both be served. Reservations can be made at (098) 857-1753 or DSN 648-7493 for the party, which includes gourmet heavy hors d’oeuvres. The third Thursday in November traditionally marks the official debut of the new season’s Beaujolais around the world, and the Japanese are first to get a taste of the light red wine because of the time zone. A spokesman for importer Suntory says Japan will import about 7.2 million bottles of the wine this year. The record for Japan was 12.5 million bottles sold in 2004. |
