Halloween excitement in Mihama

Date Posted: 2011-10-28

The ghosts, goblins and ghouls are getting ready, and so are the merchants of Mihama American Village, where the Halloween Mihama 2011 festivities are set for Monday evening.

The Mihama American Village will have the street blocked off just past the ferris wheel toward the beach for the fun, which includes everything from trick-or-treat to a costume contest for kids and for big kids. The main costume contest kicks off at 6 p.m. Monday following an afternoon of registration. Advance registration closed a few days ago, but organizers will let last minute entries in, if there are spaces still available among the 100 slots for the competition.

Ten prizes are at stake, including a $500 first prize, $300 2nd prize and $150 3rd price. Fourth through tenth place finishers win various assorted merchandise from Mihama American Village shops. The event is open to everyone 13 years of age or older. The contest begins at 6 p.m., and ends with the award ceremony by 8 p.m. There’s also a competition for kids age 12 and under, with a 1st prize Super Jumbo Box of assorted candies, a 2nd prize of a Jumbo Box, a 3rd prize of a Big Box of candies, and assorted candies going to winners in 4th ~ 10th place.

Throughout the American village, shops and sponsors will be participating by distributing candy trick-or-treat style, and offering freebies and discounts. The U.S. military community is welcome for the event, which is a cultural exchange sponsored by the Chatan Mihama American Village Jigyosha Kai and the Chatan Tourist Association.
