American serviceman arrested, charged with assaultDate Posted: 2011-10-28 The 20-year-old serviceman is charged with assault after attacking a security guard at the Beach Tower Hotel in Mihama, a district near the Marines’ Camp Foster. He reportedly stole the security guard’s cell phone. The incident began when the serviceman jumped from a taxi in front of the hotel after getting into an argument over the fare about 1 a.m. Sunday. The driver tells police the American was drunk at the time. The fare dispute was resolved, and the GI entered the hotel and tried to rent a room. When the desk clerk refused the man, he reportedly became agitated and allegedly punched the security guard in the head, then grabbed the cell phone away from him while the guard was trying to telephone police for assistance. The American took off from the hotel with the phone in hand. He was soon apprehended, and has denied the charges. |
