Pop singer headlines weekend Foster Festival

Pop singer and American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta steps on the stage on Saturday this weekend as an entertainment headliner for the Foster Festival, an annual event sponsored by Marine Corps Community Services Okinawa.

The two-day event takes place Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Foster Festival is an annual event that many, both on and off the bases and camps, look forward to each autumn. This festival features free top-notch entertainment, game booths, amusement rides, Kiddie Land for the children, and enough cultural foods to appease the heartiest appetite. Admission is FREE and open to all SOFA-status personnel and local nationals. Access to Foster Festival for local nationals will be via Camp Foster’s Gate #5 conveniently located off of Highway 58 in the Kitamae area of Chatan. No pets, coolers, or alcohol are permitted.

MCCS festivals on Okinawa always feature exciting entertainment for all ages and this year’s Foster Festival is no exception. Foster Festival will showcase pop, R & B and reggae fusion singer Iyaz Sunday night. If jazz is more your style, Sub5, one of Scandinavia’s leading jazz fusion bands, will grace the stage both day’s along with variety band street beat. Saturday’s entertainment schedule puts Eisa Crew Crown on stage at 4 p.m.,k followed at 5 p.m. by Streetbeat Variety Band. Subfive Jazzfusion appears at 6:30 p.m., followed by David Archuleta at 8:15 p.m. On Sunday, it’s Tamanchu Hiroto at 4:30 p.m., Pua Hinano at 5:15 p.m., Subfive Jazzfusion at 6:15 p.m. and the Streetbeat Variety Band at 7:30 p.m. Iyaz goes on stage at 8:45 p.m.

This year’s Foster Fest will also feature a great array of foods including a few MCCS originals such as Jumbo Turkey Legs, ¼, ½, ¾ and 1 lb Happy Burgers, freshly-baked Mamma Mia’s Pizza, Nathan’s Famous 6” and Foot-Long Hot. Local favorites such as yakitori, yakisoba and more will be available as well. Both dollars and yen will be accepted.

One thing that MCCS festival-goers have definitely come to expect over the years are the great giveaways and prizes offered every year by generous sponsors. Once again, a few lucky guests will win one of several great prizes. At stake are round-trip tickets for two to one of nine United Airlines USA destinations courtesy of United Airlines and Omega World Travel.
