Industrial waste violations lead to four men arrested

Date Posted: 2011-10-14

Four men involved with an industrial waste product trading company have been arrested on charges of operating without permission.

Itoman City Police arrested the men operating the Earth Environment Development Nanbu Recycling Center Co., in the city’s Zaha district and charged them with violating the Industrial Waste Processing Law. The charges state the men operated the company over a one-year period without permission from Okinawa Prefecture. The company was shutdown the beginning of this month.

The four men are directors in the company based in Nishizaki district of Itoman City, and were either factory managers or the executive managing director responsible for the recycling center. They were identified as Masayuki Yamashiro, 49, Shigeru Noborine, 50, Yukihide Tamaki, 51, and 43-year-old Hirokazu Oshiro.

Tomigusuku Police investigating the company say the four men oversaw the sale of 920kg of industrial waste for processing, including sheet zinc, vinyl and foaming polystyrol insulating material for buildings, in exchange for a fee. The four men are denying the charges. The vendor the material was sold to didn’t have permission to collect, transport or dispose of industrial waste at the recycle center site at Zaha.

The four men are suspected of commissioning the trader to carry the waste to another general industrial waste processing facility in Itoman City. Tomigusuku Police say they’ll investigate the possibility the recycle center used the same procedure with other vendors, and that they’re trying to figure out the money trail.
