Tenkaichi Super Fight invites military fighters

Date Posted: 2011-10-14

The countdown is on to the Tenkaichi Super Fight that will again settle the question as to who is the strongest fighter on Okinawa.

The October 23rd battle at Koza Music Town Arena, the largest martial arts event on Okinawa, pits the island’s best in competition under kickboxing and MMA professional boxing rules. It’s a General Mobilization event, the highest level of martial arts competition. What’s unique about a Tenkaichi Super Fight is that anyone who has confidence –Okinawan, American, Japanese—can enter the ring even without belonging to a gym.

Tenkaichi tournaments are conducted about every two months. Fighters wanting to get on board for an upcoming event must first go through an interview that are designed to answer questions about what types martial arts are an individual’s specialty, because organizers say it’s too dangerous for a person without training to get into the ring for a match. Pass the interview, and a fighter is ‘in’ for the next Tenkaichi Super Fight. It’s even possible to still organize a team, and Shiko Tomaru, owner of the Wild Seasar company sponsoring the event says many of those competing will be military men.

About half the military fighters are Marines, he says, and the other half Air Force. They’ll be coming form Camps Foster, Hansen and Schwab, as well as Kadena Air Base. “Soldier fighters are strong sure enough. They do high-level matches,” says Tomaru, “so I hope that not only Okinawans but also Americans will enjoy watching the match event.”

Kickboxing champion JAJA will be competing at the Tenkaichi Super Fight. JAJA is Japanese, and he is kickboxing champion in Australia. He will fight with the first place middleweight fighter, and if he wins the match, he will fight the middleweight champion. Tomaru said “JAJA’s match will be one good scene at Tenkaichi Super Fight. That will surely be a great match.”

Tomaru says “Other fights will be great contests, too. And at Tenkaichi Super Fight this time, you can enjoy watching various lineups such as match between American, Okinawan and Japanese. Please come and enjoy watching Tenkaichi Super Fight, it is rare place that can watch high-level matches in Okinawa.”

He adds that “I delight in free fighters’ matches personally, because they do great fights.” The second half of this Tenkaichi Super Fight pits fighters who hold Japan-ranking, so, there will be fierce competition heating up. This Tenkaichi Super Fight will have the ring announcements and information in English, so everyone can enjoy watching the match event.

The venue will be open from 3:30 p.m., and challenge matches will start from 4 p.m., before the Super Fight, which gets under way at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at Wild Seasar, at the Camps Foster and Hansen and Kadena BX Concession Mail Centers, and at Okinawa Market on Chuo Park Avenue.
