Helios special Goya beer wins international gold

Date Posted: 2011-09-30

A specialty beer brewed by Okinawa’s Helios Shuzo, Goya Dry, has captured top honors in an international beer competition.

The Goya beer won the gold prize in the free style and light lager category at the Tokyo International Beer Exhibition and Conference. The Japan Beer Association has been organizing the annual event since 1996, this year drawing 51 companies including overseas beer makers from US, Britain and Singapore that exhibited 165 beer brands.

Master Brewers from Japan and six overseas countries judged the flavor and taste of the entrees. Goya Dry also won the “Yokohama Mayor’s Prize” and the “Kanagawa Prefectural Governor’s Prize” because of first place popularity votes by visitors to the exhibition two days running at the Japan Beer Festival in Yokohama 2011.

Helios Shuzo says “it links confidence for quality and taste that was cultivated until now,” and company leaders promise “we will come to grips more in making beer with more free characteristics and concepts.
