Cops find trove of stolen underwear in thief’s home

Date Posted: 2011-09-30

Nozumu Irabu is a man with many problems, all stemming from more than 600 pieces of women’s underwear found by cops in his home during a breaking-and-entering investigation.

The 23-year-old Irabu, an employee of Taketomi ward in Itoman City, is charged with both theft and breaking-and-entering, but it’s the 617 pieces of women’s lingerie and girls’ student uniforms found in his home by Tomigusuku City Police that has cops talking.

Irabu has confessed, telling police “I collected those items over four years for my self-indulgence.” He was nabbed following a break-in in Naha City’s Oroku district about an hour before dawn several weeks ago, escaping with one pair of women’s shorts but spotted and chased by a man living in the apartment. The man caught Irabu and held him for police.

Tomigusuku Police say Irabu had been breaking into apartment balconies and at least one house in southern parts of Okinawa over the past four years, repeatedly stealing women’s underwear that was hung up to dry. He usually stole the panties during nighttime hours, but also stole girls’ school student uniforms.

The case has been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office by police, where they expect the court to indict Irabu.
