Customized wheels of all sorts on displayBy: Bill Charles Date Posted: 2011-09-19 ![]() ![]() ![]() Classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and even go karts will be lining the 800-meter runway of the old Yomitan Auxiliary Airfield in Yomitan next weekend as the second-ever Okinawa Motor Carnival puts itself before the public. The initial motor carnival attracted some 20,000 last December 18th and 19th, leading organizers to promise a second carnival this year, and again hosting one in December. More than 300 vehicles, and bikes, all cleaned, waxed and shiny, were on exhibit last motor carnival, and organizers promise at least as many this year. A portion of the proceeds from this Okinawa Motor Carnival will be donated to the Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake. This year’s Okinawa Motor Carnival will run throughout the day both Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, with not only exhibition vehicles, but special events and activities, including a children’s play corner and carts, dancing, live bands and stage activities. Registration fees for vehicles are ¥5,000 for cars and ¥3,000 for bikes. Visitors of high school age and above are asked to pay a nominal ¥100 most of which will be donated to the Tohoku Earth Quake and Tsunami relief efforts. Americans interested in showing vehicles at the motor carnival should contact Michael Heartz at 090-6860-6609. |
