Cops seek links within three separate assault cases

Date Posted: 2011-09-09

Okinawa Prefectural Police and cops from several municipalities are joining forces in an investigation of a rash of different crimes against police officers or vehicles.

Naha City Police have already arrested a 17-year-old high school student on charges of obstructing a police officer in the discharge of his official duties. The boy is accused of disturbing police on duty by crashing his motorcycle into a 28-year-old Naha City policeman in the city’s Tsubogawa district about 4:50 a.m. on August 30th. The student has already confessed to the charges.

Police are seeking leads on two cases of persons or parties unknown kicking police patrol cars in both Naha and Urasoe Cities, then fleeing on motorcycles. Okinawa Prefectural Police say there’s a chance the three crimes are related, and are investigating.

In one case, in Urasoe City’s Makiminato district on Highway 58, a man riding on the passenger seat of a motorcycle kicked the right side mirror of a police patrol car that was on the scene of crackdown against motorcycle gangs. The motorcycles and riders escaped. Urasoe Police are searching for the bikers on charges of damaging property.

In still another case August 30th, also on Highway 58 in Naha City’s Highashimachi district, a member of a motorcycle gang traveling in a pack of ten motorcycles threw a brick at a police patrol car. The brick broke the rear window glass. The gang escaped. Naha City Police are investigating the incident as both property damage and an obstruction of a police officer in pursuit of his duties.
