Cherry blossom season starts in northern Okinawa

The cherry blossom season officially started with Yeadake Cherry Blossom Festival getting on way on Jan. 18. The festival along a road leading up to Mt. Yaedake in Motobu Town will go on through Feb. 11. Some 7,000 cherry trees line the road attracting thousands of tourists and locals to view the pink beauties. It also marks the start of Okinawa Flower Carnival that will run through May 5.

The best know cherry blossom festival in Okinawa is held in Nago City from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Nago Castle Park and other areas in the city. During these three days there are concerts, Miss Cherry Blossom pageant, karaoke tournament, parade and other entertainment, and of course, tens of game and food booths.
