Giant warehouse moved to Torii via Route 58

Date Posted: 2011-08-26

Two large portable warehouses have been moved from Naha Military Port to Torii Station by convoy up Highway 58.

The two-night project was accomplished through a series of logistics coordinations involving the Torii Station Liaison Section, Yomitan Village Office and representatives of communities through which the multi-vehicles convoys moved. Torii Station officials say they accomplished the project late at night “because we didn’t want to cause any traffic jams”.

The movement of huge containers which spanned two traffic lanes on tractor-trailer trucks took a few hours, starting at midnight each evening. The semi’s were accompanied by escort vehicles with flashing and rotating green lights that warned motorists. Officials say the was some backup of vehicles at several points along the route, but that there was little traffic and no trouble.
