Two airmen killed in motorcycle crash near Kadena Air Base

Date Posted: 2011-08-26

The Air Force has confirmed the identities of two U.S. Air Force personnel killed last week in a two-motorcycle crash on Highway 58 just south of the Kadena Air Base Gate 1.

Officials say a motorcycle driven by Staff Sergeant Ronald Dayce of the 18th Component Maintenance Squadron collided with a motorcycle driven by a Japanese. The 25-year-old Dayce was killed immediately, while his passenger, 24-year-old Senior Airman Kristie Arroyo of the 909th Air Refueling Squadron died a few hours later at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa.

Okinawa City Police say the civilian cyclist suffered back injuries and is in a Japanese hospital. Investigators say the civilian driver may have caused the accident by failing to observe safety regulations. They say his motorcycle swerved from one lane to a second, crashing into the rear of Dayce’s motorcycle driving in the second lane.
