Another weekend on Okinawa is around the corner, and Marine Corps Community Service is getting into the festival business with the Hansen Festival, a free festival with something for everyone.
The northern Marine Corps Base is pulling out all the stops on the Hansen Parade Deck, offering plenty of fun and entertainment for individuals of all ages. Both Saturday and Sunday festival fun runs 2~10 p.m. Admission is free to everyone across Okinawa, with one exception; no pets are allowed. Also off limits are outside alcohol, bottles and coolers.

The Hansen Festival entertainment lineup features celebrity rock band Alien Ant Farm Saturday evening at 8:15 p.m. Armed Forces Entertainment rock band Letters Burning is performing both days, with show Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 7:15 p.m.

Also on stage during the Hansen Festival Saturday will be Chijinsyu Wakatida Okinawa Eisa at 3:45 p.m., and Yakaku Seinenkai Eisa at 4:30 p.m. The Filipino variety band Streetbeat performs at 5:15 p.m. On Sunday, entertainment kicks off at 3 p.m. with a hot dog eating contest, followed by the Claverio Belly Dancers at 4:25 p.m. Eisa Crew Crown pop eisa is at 5 p.m., and the Japanese pop band 2Side1Brain plays at 6 p.m.

There’s plenty to eat, drink and see as service members get a chance to play at the amusement rides, the stage, and at the food booths. Food fresh off the grill or a snow cone that melts in your hand add to the choices for even the pickiest of eaters. And no festival would be complete without a Kiddie Land to delight the children, as well as amusement rides and game booths that even adults can enjoy. Military buffs will enjoy the static displays of military tactical vehicles and aircraft.

A key element of all Marine Corps Community Services festivals are the giveaways and prizes offered by sponsors. This year, lucky attendees have a chance to win round-trip tickets to the U.S., courtesy of United Airlines and Omega World Travel. MCCS encourages responsible drinking, and reminds visitors not to drink and drive. Daiko taxi services will be available. Free shuttle buses will provide transportation to and from designated parking lots on Camp Hansen.
