Two Americans admit to drunk driving charges

Date Posted: 2011-08-19

A soldier and a Marine have both confessed to charges they violated Japan’s Road Traffic Law by driving drunk and refusing sobriety tests earlier this month.

The Soldier is identified as 29-year-old Simon McRaney, while the Marine is Leroy naranjo, a 24-year-old assigned to Futenma Marine Corps Air Station. McRaney’s been charged with driving a car with having consumed alcohol at more than three times the standard value, in Miyagi district of Chatan Town at midnight August 7th. He initially denied the charge, insisting “I drank in the daytime, and a lot of time passed.” Following the Okinawa City Police investigation, he changed his story.

Naranjo was charged with having driven his car on a Miyagi district of Chatan Town street, when he was stopped by a police patrol and asked to submit to a drinking detection test. Naranjo refused, and was promptly arrested at 5:50 a.m. August 7th.
