47 travelers participate in World Uchinanchu Okinawa eventDate Posted: 2011-08-17 The study tour is a sub-event of the upcoming World Uchinanchu Meeting. This month’s activity has brought 47 junior and senior high school students to the island to get to know each other better while learning Okinawan history, culture and nature. The study group ended on Monday. One group of 23 that traveled from 10 regions, including North and South America and Southeast Asia, had each participant introducing his or her country’s climate, culture and emigration history of natives of a particular prefecture. They also participated in Eisa practice, and participated in the 10,000 Eisa performances on Kokosai Dori last weekend. A third generation overseas Okinawan living at a settlement in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, 14-year-old Takeharu Oshiro, spent a few days before the Junior Study Tour visiting with relatives. He says “I’m so glad to come, because although we only met for the first time, they welcomed me like a person who’d already met before.” |
