Date Posted: 2011-08-12

Taiyo Golf Club is practicing its own common advice typically doled out to new golfers is to start young and get involved, tweaking plans for its first-ever Junior Open Championships tournament next week.

It’s the perfect opportunity for youngsters who’ve been hard at work on their swings throughout the summer and are ready to show off those skills at the two-day tournament next Wednesday and Thursday, with competition open to junior golfers ages 7~18. The two-day tournament is straight 36-hole play with no handicaps. There will be three divisions for boys and girls, with crystal trophies awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each flight.

Juniors ages 15 ~ 18 are in the championship flight, ages 11 ~ 14 are in the first flight and ages 7 ~ 10 are in the second flight. However, boys and girls under the age of 15 may elect to play in the championship flight from the blue tees if they feel they have the skills needed to compete at that level. The tournament will include tee prizes, a putting challenge, excellent door prizes and a dinner banquet at the Butler Officers’ Club on Camp Foster. This is a tee-time event with a fee of $60.

This event is sponsored in part by Okinawa Fruits Land, Forest Adventure, Obbligato, The Beach Tower Okinawa, Blue Seal, YYY Ie Resort, Yogurtland and Bios on the Hill. Registration information is available at Taiyo Golf Club, DSN 622-2004/2006 or on the web at www.mccsokinawa.com/taiyo, or www.facebook.com/taiyogc.
