Foreigners tour centuries-old Yaese Town homeDate Posted: 2011-07-29 The visitors from six countries, including Jamaica, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Nigeria, the U.S. and Japan, took in the sights at a Uekado home established in the early 1700s in the Asato district of Yaese Town. The dozen members of the group have been attending Japanese classes and learning about Okinawan culture. The exact construction date of this three centuries old home isn’t totally clear, but records show repairs done on the home in 1960. The group toured the home and heard explanations of the private house’s Okinawan characteristics, and then dined on curry while enjoying yoga. The tour participants all ranked the Okinawa home high, noting “this tour is linked with love, learning and showing respect to culture.” All gave Okinawa ‘satisfactory’ marks. |
