Northern Okinawa luxury resort hotel to change hands

Date Posted: 2011-07-21

A luxury hotel overlooking the East China Sea in northern Okinawa will undergo extensive renovations and become a Ritz-Carlton.

The Kise Bettei Hotel & Spa owned by Kanehide Group is located on property of the Kise Country Club, and is surrounded on three-sides by the championship caliber golf course. It’s slated to close next month as Kanehide teams with The Ritz-Carlton to create a new style hotel-resort in Okinawa. A ¥1 billion renovation will be accomplished by Ritz-Carlton on the 97 guest rooms before reopening next April.

The new Ritz-Carlton, with accent on the undeveloped natural land surrounding the hotel property, will feature three dining operations, a bar and a lounge, as well as an ESPA spa plus a pool and gymnasium as part of the leisure facilities. The conversion of Kise Bettei Hotel & Spa is Ritz-Carlton’s first makeover project in Japan. It will contract with Ilya Corporation for the new interiors.

“We are delighted to be signing not just our first resort in Japan,” says The Ritz-Carlton’s president and COO, Herve Humler. “It’s the first internally branded hotel in Okinawa, and will be a perfect opportunity for us to showcase a different side of The Ritz-Carlton brand to our loyal Japanese and international guests who are more familiar with our city center hotels in Tokyo and Osaka.” Humler, noting Okinawa is the country’s most popular tropical resort region with more than 5.7 million visitors last year, says “we have great partners in Kanehide, and we are happy to be working with them to develop what will be a truly stunning resort hotel here.”
