Deejays showcase spin skills for charity eventDate Posted: 2011-07-14 ![]() Several of the world’s freshest and phattest turntablists will bring their craft to the stage at Salt & Pepper in Chatan’s Mihama entertainment district on Aug. 12 from 4 p.m. to midnight. Event organizers say the first 200 tickets will sell for ¥3,000 at convenience stores across Okinawa, and then for ¥3,500 at the door. For each ticket sold, ¥1,000 goes to the March 11th disaster relief effort. Turntablist mastermind DJ Quest is co-creator of the world’s first battle record Hamster Breaks, one of the founding members of Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters/Space Travelerz, and is also originator of the Hamster Style Technique of scratching. If that sounds confusing, check it out at the event, which also features Mista B, another turntable artist who started deejaying in 1993 and considers himself a preserver of the musical art of turntablism. Add DJ Alf of record label Hip Hop Slam, who started his musical path while serving in the US. Air Force, and you’ve the music of a guy whose first album, This Way or That Way drew peer acclaim in 2009. The big guys will join DnZ, reggae singer Barry Micron, N12K, Shaolong to the Sky, AKEMI, CHUCK WOW, Shouta’s Band and HADO, for the eight-hour charity concert. All guests of legal drinking age will be treated to awamori on tap, and after the main event, there’s an official ‘after party’ at Otobola, for those still with energy. Otobola is located in the basement of Tsubohachi, on the right as you enter Park Avenue in Okinawa City from Hwy 330.. |
