Contruction worker arrested for convenience store heist

Date Posted: 2011-07-14

A 51-year-old construction worker has confessed to committing armed robbery at an Okinawa City convenience store.

Saburo Sekine, a construction worker from Goya district of Okinawa City, admitted he robbed the convenience store not once, but twice. He says he first got away with ¥220,000 when he took part in a robbery at the store May 9th, and went back and did it again June 29th.

Okinawa City Police say they’ve arrested Sekine on the latest charges of attempted robbery, but note they’ll go back and charge him with armed robbery in the first incident once they’ve all the facts. Sekine told investigators he’s deep in debt, so he broke into the same convenience store again because he knew the place had money.

Investigators became suspicious of the man in connection with the May robbery after they compared surveillance camera footage and notice similarities in the way both robberies were carried out. The culprit, police noted, also looked suspiciously the same.
