Okinawa Bank survey: Hot summer good for business

Date Posted: 2003-11-14

Although the nation at large suffered from cold and bad weather throughout this summer, Okinawa’s summer was exceptionally hot and dry. That’s the word from the Research and Marketing section of Okinawa Bank, which says it has proven to be a boom for many businesses.

The bank says that air conditioners have been particularly big sellers this year, posting a 40% increase from April to September compared to year ago. And as the war weather continues, they still continue to sell.

Cars have also sold well. The registration numbers of wagons and small minicars are clearly up from last year. The third sector doing well is the hotel industry, which with its average occupation rate of 77.7 percent, marks a 2.3 percent increase when compared to last year.
