Saion Square opens as part of Naha redevelopment

Date Posted: 2011-07-14

Ribbons were cut during opening ceremonies for a flower shop, convenience store and restaurant in Saion Square, Naha City’s latest redevelopment project showpiece.

The Makishi and Asato Area Redevelopment Association spearheaded the joint project, which saw a high rise apartment building and a hotel opened in the area earlier. The main shopping area of the Saion Square development is slated to open this fall.

The three-hectares area also included the area in front of Makishi Monorail Station Hoshizora Citizens’ Hall and Library. A planetarium is located on the third floor of Saion Square. Live musical performances and public radio broadcasts were among opening day events at Saion Square.
