Drunk driving fisherman flees accident scene

Ginowan City Police have levied a whole slew of charges against Yoshihiko Nakama following his arrest for drunk driving, causing a traffic accident, inflicting injuries and violating the Road Traffic Law.

The 53-year-old fisherman from Yagi in Nakagusuku Village is charged with driving while drunk, running over a 54-year-old woman walking along a village road in Toma, Nakagusuku Village, then driving away from the scene without stopping. The soman suffered serious broken ribs and bruising.

Ginowan Police investigators have determined Nakama hit the woman with the side mirror of his car while she walked on the left side of the road shortly before 9 pm. one evening last week. Police say Nakama tested about three times the legal limit for alcohol the night of the accident, noting the driver had returned to the accident scene, where he was administered a breathalyzer test. Police subsequently arrested him the following day.
