Two newcomers make it to Peaceful Love Rock FestivalDate Posted: 2011-06-23 ![]() ![]() ![]() Slated for July 9th and 10th, the festival will introduce a pair of new bands to the audience along with 20 known musical groups. The festival’s organizers created a competition for bands to participate in an audition exhibition at Music Town Sound Market, attracting 43 unknown bands. A first round of auditions whittled the 43 down to nine, who then competed for the final two coveted slots in this year’s Peaceful Love Rock Festival. The nine bands were Gekidan Lowhine, Loco-bitch, Something Four, Run It to Ground, Skank 69, AngerPertin, W-D4, Audience and The Infinity Star World. Competition was fierce, and intense. “The judgment was so disputed,” says Hidetsugu Sakiyama. “Each group had appeal such as excellent technique and sensitivity, and plenty of powers of expressions young people like.” AngerPertin and W-D4 made the final cut, and will appear on stage at the festival. “Very tensed up. So happy!” Was the way AngerPertin expressed their feelings of thanks.” AngerPertin will perform July 9th, while W-D4 is center stage on July 10th. Judging was challenging and difficult. “It was exciting, and I see the performances with enjoyment from the first to the last because each band’s level was so high,” says judge Takashi Furugen, a meber of JET. “The future of Okinawa rock is delightful because every band’s level raises up each year.” He encouraged bands that didn’t make it to the finals not to give up, and “keep going and enter next time.” Fates to the Peaceful Love Rock Festival at the Okinawa City athletic field near Kadena Air Base Gate 5 open at 1 p.m., and the music kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Event tickets are on sale for ¥3,800 for one day and ¥6,000 for both days in advance. |
