Professional pantomime a man to watch

Date Posted: 2011-06-16

Imagine this: Reo King Sanshiro can stand completely still without moving a muscle for eight hours!

Really. Sanshiro’s a professional pantomime with 24 years experience. He’s brought his talents from his Kumamoto home town to Okinawa, which he says he ‘really loves’. His love of pantomime has taken him to university studies in Germany, and to New York, where he lived and practiced his craft for a couple years. It was such an experience, he says he wants to go back next year to New York.

He’s worked in the Hong Kong movie “Project A” starring Jackie Chan, working as an action stunt man. Sanshiro has also appeared in musicals and won a Grand Prix in France’s Highroad Art World Contest in 1989. When not working his skills of standing perfectly still, he loves dancing, cooking and fishing.

While he’s the wanderlust for traveling and performing, he’s not yet ready to leave Okinawa. He arrived earlier this year, and still wants to get around to Okinawa elementary schools and nursing homes, where he plans to perform.

The pantomime is currently performing at Kadena Michino Eki, the Road Station. To take in the performance, head out Gate 3 and turn left toward Kadena Town. The Kadena Michino Eki Road station is about one kilometer from the gate, on the right just after the traffic light.
