Landslide sends dirt into timber dealer site

Date Posted: 2011-06-09

A week after Typhoon Songda hammered its way across Okinawa as a Category 3 storm, the aftermath of its soaking rains were still causing damages and a landslide in a district of Uruma City.

Authorities say nobody was injured when the 10-meter landslide sent dirt and mud into a timber dealerís neighborhood in Ishikawa, Higashionna district of Uruma City. Ishikawa Police attributed the damages to the typhoon.

A local resident says the landslide broke off from a crag about 70cm across, then fell from a cliff about 1:30 p.m. on June 4th.
