Golden Kings sponsoring Father’s Day free throw competition

Date Posted: 2011-06-03

The Ryukyu Golden Kings, coming off a successful season in which they finished second to the Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix in the Basketball Japan League, are keeping the round ball in play for a few more weeks as it challenges dads, sons and daughters to a free throw competition.

Okinawa’s professional basketball squad has teamed with Aeon Group for the Father’s Day Aeon Free Throw Tournament, with a ¥500,000 prize for beating the Ryukyu Golden Kings. The system is simple: children create teams of 3-5 players, including at least one father, and head for an Aeon store to compete in preliminary free throw competitions.

The event takes place Saturday at Nago, Sunday at Chatan, June 11th at Naha, June 12th at Haebaru, and June 18th at Gushikawa. Each store’s winners will advance to the finals June 19th in Haebaru. Those winners will take on the Golden Kings for Free Throw Championship bragging rights.
Application forma are available at each AEON department store. Participation is limited to 50 teams on first come, first serve basis.
