Miyazato loses to Cristie Kerr in match play quarterfinals

Date Posted: 2011-05-26

Ai Miyazato took down Park In Bee in the Sybase Match Play Championships in New Jersey, but couldn’t keep the momentum going into the quarterfinals.

The Okinawa native went down to defeat at the hands of Cristie Kerr, 3 and 2, at the $1.5 million event at Hamilton Farm. Kerr was strong, recording four birdies to have a 3-up lead by the ninth hole, then held on as Miyazato scored birdies of her own on holes 10 and 11. Kerr put the finishing touches with two more shots and secured her victory on the 16th hole.

“It was a great match,” said Kerr. “I think it was closer than the score indicated, although I started off great and made birdies.” The American golfer praised Miyazato for “making a long putt for birdie on the second hole when I was there tight and missed the putt.”

Miyazato had beaten Park In Bee of South Korea in the third round.
