Man admits to filing fraudulent insurance claims for massages

Date Posted: 2011-05-19

A Naha City man operating a clinic that specializes in physical treatments, including massages, has pleaded guilty to swindling the National Health Insurance program out of 3 million.

A criminal investigation began after officials with the National Health Insurance became suspicious of claims filed. The Naha City clinic filed some 300 fictitious claims for treatments allegedly performed during a one-year period April 2007 ~ March 2008, causing National Health Insurance auditors to begin asking questions.

The clinic owner was arrested and headed for trial by the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office on charges of swindling the government out of the money, when he broke down and admitted guilt.
