Jazz trumpetist's concert now only two weeks away

Date Posted: 2011-05-19

Rehearsals are now just about complete, and jazz musician Frank Gordon’s ready to present his “A June Night!!!” concerts at Bistro Hamba-maru in Urasoe City.

The pair of concerts June 2nd will combine an evening of gourmet dining with the crystal clear sounds of the Wisconsin-born trumpet player’s compositions. Gordon’s still being coy about exactly what the program will entail, but he hastens to assure jazz aficionados they’ll be on the edge of their chairs throughout the performances. His co-collaborators on the “A June Night!!!” concerts are Abel Baer and Cliff Friend.

He has performed across the United States and around the world, with stops in Europe, Canada, Cuba and Mexico while working with stars Lena Horne, Art Blakey, Hank Mobley, Quincy Jones, the Duke Ellington band, and with his own groups. He’s now an Okinawa resident together with his wife Yoshiko, a Tokyo native.

Tickets for the 73-year-old Gordon’s two shows for the Thursday, June 2nd concerts are ¥4,000 including a gourmet dinner and wine. The shows begin at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Bistro Hamba-Maru, located near Ahacha just off Route 330. Reservations are available by calling Yuriko at 090-7296-7509 or Yoshiko at 090-6857-6508.
