Cops quiz American teens on cell phone, keys robbery

Date Posted: 2011-05-19

It took arrest warrants to get the job done, but Okinawa City Police have now interviewed five American teenage dependents in conjunction with the robbery last month of a cell phone and keys from a Japanese youth.

Okinawa Prefecture and Okinawa City Police investigating the robbery were suspicious Americans were involved in the robbery, and asked to talk with the boys they considered suspects. The five are dependents of U.S. servicemen stationed at Kadena Air Base.

Several boys voluntary appeared for questioning by police but an arrest warrant on suspicion of robbery for the other two was enough for U.S. authorities to make the boys available. Okinawa City Police interrogated the boys, then let them go. Police say they’ll continue their inquiries, including further searches for corroborating evidence linking the teens to the case, and will even consider arrests.

Police say the boys denied involvement during the voluntary interviews, emphasizing “we didn’t” do it.
