JAL scales back its domestic route flights

Date Posted: 2011-05-11

Okinawa is losing a flight a day on Japan Air Lines, as the airline that only recently emerged from a financial restructuring announces temporarily flight reductions.

The flight frequency on some domestic routes, including mainland Japan to Okinawa, is being scaled back by a total nine daily round trip flights on six domestic routes. Five of the six originate from Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka Itami, Fukuoka, Kagoshima and Naha International Airport.

Japan Airlines says five of the daily flights slashed originate from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. The actions come on the heels of reductions in travel following the March 11th earthquake and tsunami in northcentral Japan. JAL says the cutbacks, which run until June 1st, will be temporary as it struggles to remain profitable.
