Popular Kyoto style ramen near Camp Foster

Date Posted: 2011-05-11

Ramen Linya isn’t hard to find; in fact, owner Hayashi can often be seen out front waving a yellow flag to get customers attention to try his tasty Kyoto style ramen.

Open for nearly a year, Ramen Linya is a highly specialized shop, featuring Hayashi’s home town Kyoto style ramen, and also a zesty Korean style ramen. The South Korean style spicy cold noodles, a healthy food with a slightly harder texture than many ramen noodles, goes for ¥780. With summer upon Okinawa, Hayashi says the cold, spicy noodles are perfect.

Hayashi owns more than 170 ramen and yakiniku restaurants, and one of his specialties is a delightful yakiniku sauce created with a host of special secret ingredients. The sauce, he says, goes well with the ¥550 yakiniku rice bowl. Ramen Linya also has gyoza for ¥290, a plate with six pieces. There’s also fried rice with kimchi for ¥580, and fried rice with curry for ¥500.

Ramen Linya is offering Japan Update readers a special deal with coupons. The papers found inside this week’s issue offer the Gyoza One-Dish Pot for ¥290, and a regular size ramen for ¥630 can be plus’ed up to a ramen soup with pork. There’s no limit on the coupons, so Hayashi encourages customers to use them “every day”. And if a patron chooses the Choice Set Menu, he’ll refill the rice bowl for free.

Ramen Linya is located on Hwy 58 just a couple of hundred meters north from Camp Foster Kitamae Gate. It’s open seven days a week from 11:30 to midnight. Free parking is available in front of the restaurant.
