Hannaryz outlast Shiga in Western Conference BJL playoff game

Date Posted: 2011-05-02

The Shiga Lakestars were strong on the boards, but couldn’t find the basket as they fell to the Kyoto Hannaryzin their opening round Western Conference game in Otsu.

The Hannaryz, arch rivals with Shiga, had the upper hand throughout the battle they ultimately won 88-80, pressuring the Lakestars throughout the Saturday contest. A layup by Kibwe Trim with 5:22 left in the contest put Kyoto ahead 80-66, and there was little the Lakestars could do to rally.

Shiga went only 4-for-22 on three-point shots, while Kyoto’s Abdul-Rauf, an ex-NBA guard, kept the pressure on as he wound up with 14 points while playing more than 234 minutes of the game. Shiga had entered the contest somewhat a favor, having won four straight and holding a 4-2 record against Kyoto.
