International service organization to stage charity golf tournament

One hundred lucky golfers will hit the links at the militaryís Taiyo Golf Course May 20th to participate in the 4th Annual Pilot International Golf Tournament, an event being staged for charity.

The event being staged by Pilot Internationalís Okinawa District will generate funds to be donated to the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami relief funds. Pilot International is a worldwide service organization with 20 districts in Japan, Singapore, the Bahamas, Canada and the United States.

Registrations are now being accepted for the 25 foursomes to participate in the team best ball play tournament. Participation is open both to SOFA and non-SOFA personnel on Okinawa. Tournament organizer Yuriko Valtaoya is looking to fill the team slots in the week ahead, so people have time to get tuned up for the Friday, May 20th event. Registration can be done by email to yuriko@japanupdate.com, or by calling 090-7294-7509. Registrations can be accomplished in either English or Japanese.

The entry fees include the golf itself, a luncheon barbeque, prizes and the money being donated to the March 11th earthquake relief funds. The fee for non-SOFA entry is •10,000. SOFA participants are ranked into three categories: E-4 and below pay $70, E-5~E-9 players pay $75, and officers, DOD civilians and retirees pay $77.

Check in time at Taiyo Golf Course will be at 6 a.m. on the 20th, with a shotgun start at 7 a.m.
