Crime family leader denies illegal activity

A leader of the second generation Teruya family of Okinawa Kyokuryu-Kai, a designated yakuza crime gang in Okinawa City, is denying assault charges that led to his arrest.

Kiyomasa Oshiro was arrested by Okinawa City Police, along with 53-year-old Kiyomasa Akamine of the citys Miyazato district. Both were charged with causing injuries, but the 57-year-old Oshiro says hes innocent. Akamine, who is unemployed, has admitted guilt.

Police investigators say the men were charged on suspicion they hit a 38-year-old male company representative in the face with their fists. Police say the brute force involved in the assault required a month of treatment for the victim, including repair of a broken nose.
