New Live House Gitane offers Its patrons real music choices

Date Posted: 2011-04-14

A new live house in Okinawa City near Kadena Air Base is celebrating its second month in business today, offering customers variety in musical entertainment.

Live & Karaoke House Gitane has live music by Willie Band every Friday, and numerous musical opportunities every other day. That includes piano recitals with pianist Aki, and karaoke on a state-of-the-art sound system Aki, a veteran of 20+ years performing in both on-base venues and at well known resort hotels, plays healing and relaxing melodies. She also runs a piano school at the Live & Karaoke House Gitane.

Willie Band, a three-man band—Willie, Ken and Ryan—playing everything from pop to tunes from famous musicians including Sting, the Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix, uses no drums. Instead, they play music on guitars, bass and a Peruvian ‘Cajon’ percussion instrument. The band leader Willie has been belting out tunes since he was 15, and has played both in Okinawa and other prefectures.

Gitane has nine counter seats, plus tables, and offers awamori, whisky, soft drinks and herbal tea. Located on Chuo Park Avenue on the second floor of Victor’s Fashions Indian Goods shop, and across from American Pizzaman restaurant, Gitane is open daily 7 p.m. to midnight.
