Nishihara new car dealer arrested on fraud charges

Date Posted: 2011-04-14

A financially-troubled owner of a Nishihara City new car dealership has been arrested and charged with bilking a man and a woman of ¥3 million for cars promised and paid for, but not delivered.

The owner of Garage M, Masakatsu Nakasone, is charged by police with fraud stemming from his accepting money from the two customers under the pretext of selling them new cars. At the time, Nakasone was in the process of filing for bankruptcy after his dealership suffered a slump in business.

The 51-year-old Nakasone began bankruptcy preparations January 26th, only four days after he took ¥1.5 million from the second victim. The first to be ripped off stemmed from an agreement last October. “I never intended to cheat,” says Nakasone.

The 69-year-old male victim and 49-year-old woman both say they “paid the purchase price of a new car already, but they were never delivered their vehicles”, despite paying ¥1.5 million each. Urasoe City Police are investigating, expanding their work to see if Nakasone was involved in other fraudulent activities.
